Themed Party Food - Princess Parties
These pretty sugar cookies are perfect for your little princesses at their princess theme party. Very impressive to look at and taste delicious, but not as hard to create as you'd imagine - you just need the right cookie cutters and a little time.
1) Make the sugar cookies - you can do this up to a few days in advance (see recipe below). Make sure you have at least a couple of hours to ensure they are completley cooled before you ice them.
The sugar cookie recipe we used is good British recipe and is below:-
7oz butter (softened)
7 oz white sugar
14 oz all purpose flour
1 egg (beaten)
1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Mix your butter and sugar with a fork until combined - this should be done gently so as not to create too much air in the dough. Add the egg and vanilla essence. Add the flour and bring it together into a dough - you don't need to sift the flour. Wrap in cling-wrap and refrigerate for 30mins or until you are ready to use (if you leave it in too long, you may want to let it stand at room temperature for a few minutes before you roll it). Roll out to about 1/4" thick on a floured surface, making sure to add a little flour to the top of the dough before you roll to stop it sticking. Use your chosen cookies cutters to create your princess shapes. We used some different crown cutters as well as hearts and butterflies.
Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 mins.
Remove from oven and allow to cool on a wire rack for a couple of hours before icing. If you are planning on icing them another day then store in an airtight container once cooled.
2) Using pre-colored Wilton fondant, or using white Wilton fondant colored to your chosen colors, roll out on a non-stick surface (or on a surface dusted with powdered sugar or wiped with Crisco) to about 1/8" thick. Use the same cookie cutters you used for your cookies to cut out the corresponding toppings. Your cookies will have grown slightly in the oven so the toppers should fit well.
3) To stick the fondant toppers onto the cookies you can just brush the tops of the cookies with water and then the fondant will stick. Other options are to use edible glue (a water and sugar solution) or a little ready made tube icing.
4) You can leave your cookies like this, or you can spray with a pearl lustre spray which will give them a special princess shimmer.
